Effect of conventional physiotherapy treatments in cases of low back pain

Abstract

The low back pain is a common condition in adult population and economically active, affecting about 80% of individuals at some point in your life. This study aimed to observe the effectiveness of physical therapy that uses a combination of electro-thermotherapy and postural exercises Williams in cases of low back pain. Participated 117 patients, 75 women and 42 men, aged between 14 and 88 years old. These participants underwent four treatment modalities a physical therapy clinic. The instrument used to assess pain at the beginning and end of treatment was the Visual Analogue Scale (VAS), which contains values from zero to ten, where zero equals no pain and "ten", maximum pain possible. The results showed that females had a higher incidence of low back pain, as well as higher levels of pain. Physical therapy treatments which added the ultrasound protocol had higher improvement rate. It was concluded that the procedures that use electro-thermotherapy and therapeutic exercises are significantly effective in reducing pain and may contribute significantly in the treatment of low back pain in all its forms.
