Proposed of time reduction using the Theory of Constraints (TOC) with the aid of the Value Stream Map (VSM)

The present paper describes the application of the Value Stream Mapping (VSM) and the Theory of Constraints (TOC) in a lumber company. The goal is to identify, through the VSM, the current situation, gathering information about lead time and cycle times in all wood processing operations. After an overview of the whole process, and identifying the constraint, we used the five focusing steps of the theory of constraints in order to make the continuous flow, reducing delivery times and increase profitability.
