Abstract

This article aims to give a quantitative information available related to obesity and overweight body in order to support the level of latent concern for public health in contemporary society. It is assumed that the imbalance between the amount of calories compared to the amount of calories metabolized to perform everyday tasks generate obesity. This process intensifies today due to technological advances of urbanity, which stimulate the hypokinetics routines of life (devoid of regular physical activity), directing individuals to levels of energy expenditure very close to baseline. Hypokinetics routines trigger, in addition to overweight and obesity, the physiological changes that refer individuals to a life dependent on supports medical frequently, and other palliative drugs, reducing not only the quality of life, but also its longevity. It is possible the use of anthropometric techniques for determining the nutritional index of individuals, these techniques have a high level of reliability and high predictive value and is recommended for use in research with high-volume population, especially in the general population.
