Abstract

Accessibility is frequent topic in Brazilian society of the early twentyfirst century. The conditions of the structure offered in organs and public and private institutions, on the other hand, does not supply the demand for accessible environments to anyone, with or without mobility restrictions. This research seeks to evaluate how the State University of Maringa (UEM) has worked with the theme, showing the physical structure in comparison with the technical standard NBR 9050/2004 of the Brazilian Association of Technical Standards (ABNT), with Notebook 1 Ministry of Cities on the appropriate care to people with disabilities and restricted mobility, with the notions acquired in the master's program in urban engineering of EMU and with the experience of a guest wheelchair user who was willing to assist research and to point improvement opportunities according to their experience. Research loco happened to use a digital camera to record the occurrences found in a preestablished route within the university.
