Abstract

The ritualistic use of Ayahuasca tea, made from amazonian plants, and better known as Santo Daime tea, has been the subject of discussions in the political, scientific and cultural in Brazil and in countries like United States and Japan. There are claims that tea can be harmful, cause toxicity and even wake atypical behaviors manifestation of hallucinations and hypnagogic visions, while others report benefits from the use of the same, so as a way to demystify and understand the applicability of Santo Daime tea, the different religions, cultural influences, toxicity profile, mechanism of action in the human body and the search for break of paradigms related to the consumption of psychoactive substances as an alternative approach for the treatment of addiction, this review was developed and is expected to her, get a reflective and critical approach of the advantages , disadvantages and scientific representation of Ayahuasca tea.
