Abstract

Public lighting is not a supporting element in the planning of cities, but rather a relevant tool for the valorization of urban spaces, aiding the commerce and leisure that can be promoted in the evening. However, it have to have a good project, since the lamp selection, light fixture and landscaping so that it can contribute to a social and economic development with quality, preventing crime and helping the organization of the city. With the conscious use of existing technologies, it can also provide a reduction of environmental impact and strengthen sustainability with conscious consumption, use of environment harmless materials and reducing energy costs. Although, technological selection based on partial data or manipulated by economic groups, can lead to misguided choices, especially in the government. This is the case of new LED luminaires, where the old manner used in conventional lamps which analysis was done by the quantification of Lumens, Candelas, or efficiency can no longer be applied because, we must be based on effective lighting in the effective application Lighting.
