Among the main causes for colic in newborns are meconium retention, bladder rupture, and other causes observed em adult animals. The most frequente congenital changes of the gastrintestinal tract are atresia of the colon and anus. The atresia coli, is an amiss formation of the gastrointestinal tract of congenital origin, with unknown etiology. The most accepted theory is that there is a vascular accident that prevents growth and it results in atrophy of na intestinal segment. This is, however, a rarely diagnosed condition. The atresia coli is classified into four types, in accordance to the tissue involved. Regardless of the type of atresia, the most common symptoms are acute abdominal pain, failure, absence or late passage of meconium in the first 24-48 hours of life. This case report presents a distinct diagnosis for equine neonatal colic, with a brief current rewiew.
