Abstract

The extracorporea shockwave therapy is a non- invasive technique used to stimulate the healing of ligaments, tendons or bones structures. Shockwave is a sounded wave of high energy which increases the pressure quickly, as it flows in tissues. There are still few reports of the use of shockwave in animals, but the use of it has been efficient in some injuries such as tendinitis ad desmites chronic. Equines of sports usually have greater propensity to develop tendon pathology caused by exaggerated effort. Most of the time, the animals are treated with radial shockwave which low energy waves with slower increase of time and Power penetration when compared to focused shockwave. However, beneficial effects, in human-beings and equines have been reported concerning about the treatment of orthopedic pathologies. Nowadays, the accurate use of shockwave therapy on tissues is not known yet.
