HIV is the human immunodeficiency virus, AIDS causes that spread in big cities and later expanded to small municipalities, reaching the heterosexual population, especially women, also increasing the number of children infected through vertical transmission which can occur during pregnancy, childbirth and breastfeeding. The Brazilian government has adopted measures to reduce vertical transmission levels of the virus in the country, among them is the exclusion of breastfeeding for HIV-infected women to their children. Thus, the aim of this study was to analyze, through an integrative review of Brazilian literature, the feelings experienced by HIV-positive women about the impossibility of breastfeeding. The bibliographic survey took place in November 2015 and resulted in a total of seven articles potential on the topic. After analyzing all the results, it was concluded that women with HIV experience ambivalent feelings related to the impossibility of breastfeeding. These feelings permeate social issues such as fear of rejection and internal issues such as the desire to breastfeed.
