Abstract

This study aims to describe the profile of nursing professionals in the state of São Paulo. This is an ecological and descriptive study with data from the survey "Profile of Nursing in Brazil". There is greater concentration of female professionals, the predominance of young adults, the concentration of professionals in the capital, the influence of family lineage in the profession choice, the low education of mid-level nursing professionals and the tendency of staff to specialize in area. Among the aspects that are influenced by the current labor market situation, we can highlight the excessive workload, access to information technologies to acquire knowledge and greater concentration of professionals in public employment institutions. We conclude that it is necessary to know in a systematic, comprehensive and detailed this essential profession to the health sector, which brings with it the biggest technical contingent of the whole workforce in health in Brazil.
