Abstract

this study aims to analyze the experiences of mothers of newborns in the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit. This is an exploratory and descriptive study, with a qualitative approach, carried out with 10 mothers of newborns in the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit at a Santarém-PA hospital, through a semi-structured interview. Through the analysis of the statements, two categories emerged: Experiences experienced in the NICU and Confidence in the care provided by health professionals. The most frequent reports were experiences, fears and difficulties related to the distance of the other child, frequent hospital visits, problems with adaptation to the environment, and gratitude and trust for the care provided by health professionals. The research allowed favorable data for a better assistance to the mother and child binomials, providing less painful experiences, besides strengthening the confidence in the offered service.
