Obstetric violence is the imposition of harmful interventions on the physical and psychological integrity of women in labor in health institutions, as well as disrespect for their autonomy. Objective: To evaluate the perception and experiences by puerperal of a Basic Health Unit (UBS) regarding obstetric violence during labor. Methodology: A qualitative and observational study was carried out, using a focal group technique, composed of puerperal women (up to 40 days days after delivery). The study obtained a thematic content analysis, resulting in three categories: Understanding, perception and experience of puerperal women on obstetric violence. Results: At the time of delivery, women are still subjected to unnecessary actions that can contribute to physical injuries and psychological trauma. Empowerment is important to the choice of their delivery free of harmful interventions. Fine conditions: The experience of the puerperas at this time may leave indelible marks, positive or negative, for the rest of their lives. Health professionals and institutions should be trained and prepared to offer a welcoming environment so that birth is natural and safe.
