Abstract

the nursing team should provide quality pain management in neonates, knowing how to evaluate and intervene, thus respecting that neonatal not to feel pain. Objective: this study aims to identify what the literature points out as the best method of evaluation and intervention of pain in the newborn in ICU. Method: integrative review, the search was performed in the databases LILACS, BDENF and MEDLINE. The inclusion criteria were articles published in Portuguese and English, which were available in full texts. Discussion: according to the studies the most used scales for the evaluations are: Neonatal Infant Pain Score (NIPS) and Premature Infant Pain Profile (PIPP). Regarding the best method of intervention, it can vary greatly from which professional will intervene and also in which newborn will be applied, but in general the skin-toskin contact or kangaroo method is widely used and has been one of the most important ways to recover neonatal homeostasis. Final considerations: it is suggested that nursing professionals transform scientific knowledge into practice and that even in undergraduation, academics deepen their knowledge through scientific research and apply means of evaluation and intervention for the qualification of nursing care to the newborn.
