Abstract

Introduction: Suicide is understood as a serious public health problem, responsible for one death in every 40 seconds in the world (ONUBR, 2016). The number is even more disturbing when concerning youngsters from 20 to 24 years of age, transitional age from teens to adults, where the individual must make a lot of choices that will define their future, which can be a critical period, and one of the factors into the action of unleashing the depressive behaviour and suicidal ideas. Identifying the importance approach of theme, the GEPV (Grupo de Estudos de Promoção da Vida) linked on NEPI (Núcleo de Estudos e Pesquisas Interdisciplinares) from UNIFAJ (Centro Universitário de Jaguariúna) has been realizing researches about the theme, to futures interventions. Objective: Deepen knowledge about suicides in college students within the health area, in order to support projects which broach this subject with a focus on promoting life in universities and in society. Methodology: Discuss a bibliographical research involving articles of discussion to deepen and think about the purpose theme. Researches have been done in electronic databases: Banco de Dados em Enfermagem (BDENF), Literatura Latino-Americana e do Caribe em Ciências da Saúde (LILACS), Biblioteca Virtual em Saúde (BVS) e Scientific Electronic Library Online (SCIELO) using the key-words: "suicide", ''university", "college students". Results: There have been found 17 articles contemplating the proposed theme which are part of the research. Among the main results feature suicidal ideas linked to psychiatric disorders with a focus in depression, use of psychoactive substances, difficulty in the social relationships, financial issues and plenty information that has occurred in university and family environments. Final Considerations: It is concluded that there is need greater investment in Projects Researches with focus on deconstruct the prejudice about the suicide in order that college students of health area that invest in healthcare's degree could be also watched.
