Abstract

The present work aimed to investigate the use of native herbs in the healing of physical problems in inhabitants of Nazaré Paulista-SP, Metropolitan Region of São Paulo (RMSP). The municipality, located around the Atibainha Dam, has an extensive rural area. The objective was to study women who work with medicinal plants, seeking to answer the questions: with whom and in what way such knowledge was learned. The applied methodology was qualitative, with semistructured interviews. The study aimed to address the way these women use to meet people who seek them; Identify the plants used; If such knowledge is socialized with other people interested in the subject. It is considered the importance of the present work as a record of an activity in extinction, understanding that such knowledge is necessary for the rescue of a secular tradition, in addition to deepening studies of plant material, largely not yet systematized by the sciences.
