Abstract

The study of spirituality as an essential health component has deepened and its contribution and influence on the quality of life (QoL) and health of people living in the outskirts of town is acknowledged. This paper analyzes the perception of dwellers reallocated to a housing complex in the urban/rural periphery of the city of São José dos Campos, concerning their QoL and the influence of spirituality, religion and personal beliefs (S/R/PB) on this perception. The quantitative research was grounded on the application of the WHOQOL-100 quality of life questionnaire, developed by the World Health Organization. It was carried out in the Caminhos da Montanha Housing Complex in São José dos Campos, SP, Brazil. The S/R/PB domain scored the highest amongst the six domains that comprise the questionnaire, reinforcing the importance of this factor as a contributing element for the maintenance of the health and well-being of people in condition of socio-spatial vulnerability.
