Keywords:

This article aims to point out a culture, an appreciation of knowledge and a popular participation as fundamental for urban planning for healthy city. It demonstrates that the culture and creativity of local communities can corroborate the process in how the imagined city and its urbanization are constituted and consolidated in a real way. The recovery and valorization of culture as a principle of governance in the decision-making process in the planning of sustainable development results in the valuation of identity and local belonging, enabling its existence and dissemination, being fundamental in the search for healthy and equitable cities, at the same time as the devaluation of the inherent knowledge to the people and the lack of interaction of the community, even though it is in the Brazilian constitution, can result in loss of identity and connection with the city.
