This paper presents partial results of a more comprehensive research on housing quality and the performance of social housing development projects (EHIS). It values advances in the Brazilian regulatory context as well as the possibility of adopting innovative construction technologies, which can provide a housing quality increase. More specifically, the goals were interpreting the requirements of the Brazilian Standard on Housing Performance ABNT NBR15575:2013 and the National Technical Evaluation System (SINAT); analyzing the motivations and difficulties in order to achieve compliance by the professionals involved; gathering a collection of valid methods and instruments for future post-occupancy evaluations (POE). Bibliographical research was used in this study. Research allowed reflections on the importance of compliance to normative references in housing design phase as well as of building-in-use performance evaluations in order to improve housing quality in future design projects.
