Abstract

The present work aims to present in a simple way the real importance of the veterinarian and his performance within the area of expertise. Strengthening an area that although recent has been growing and gaining market gradually, due to the very specific technical level. The area of criminal expertise for example, is not the most common within veterinary medicine, in view of the various other skills of the veterinarian. However, it is also possible to act as a criminal expert being a veterinarian, acting in cases of crimes involving animals or not. The absence of subject disciplines in academic curricula does not prepare veterinary professionals to act in the area of expertise, and thus there is a shortage of specialists. Through research on scientific methodology based on consecrated bibliographies, scientific articles, monographs and current legislation, we can characterize the action of the veterinarian in veterinary expertise and understand the technical knowledge necessary to be an expert. Thus, it is clear the importance of technical knowledge both veterinary and legal for an effective action in the area.
