Abstract

The present study aims to evaluate the main diseases that affect the lower urinary tract of felines and the incidence with which they are diagnosed according to the sex of the animal and seasons of the year. Through the casuistry book of the small clinic of the Veterinary Hospital of the University Center of the FAJ - Faculdade de Jaguariúna, felines were analyzed that presented cases of diseases of the urinary tract in a period of one year - June of 2016 to June of 2017. We conclude the population of felines found in one year were 328 felines, 32 of which were diagnosed with diseases of the urinary tract, divided into 24 males and 8 females. Problems of cystitis (11 cases), urethral obstruction (10 cases) and urinary infection (3 cases) were detected. The highest number of cases of urinary tract disease was recorded in the summer with 14 cases and in the fall with 10 cases. Scientifically it is possible to say that felines of the male gender are more prone to diseases of the urinary tract due to conformation of the urethra which is thin and narrow. If necessary, the owners are advised of the proper care and prevention of these diseases
