Abstract

Veterinary physicians are among the leading and most competent professionals when it comes to human health. The objective of this work is to follow in a chronological order the insertion of the veterinarian in public health and show its importance for both humans and animals. This professional has an immense area of activity that directly benefits the human population. These include areas such as feeding, zoonoses control, immunization, vector control, sanitary surveillance and laboratory work. However, few educational institutions emphasize the significance of the area. This is a remarkable link between physicians of humans and veterinary physicians, since they all have the same goal. However, in practice not all human physicians know that they can rely on the knowledge of veterinary physicians. For all the aspects presented it was possible to conclude that health professionals need to recognize veterinarians as apt and their own need more guidance to show broad knowledge of the area and that their participation is fundamental to the success of both.
