Abstract

Introduction: Low back pain is one of the most common and incapacitating health complaints. There are several factors related to this complaint and, it is believed that post-surgical scars can be connected to the origin of this disorder, for the alteration of postural and mobility aspects, mainly if we take into account the growing number of C-sections in Brazil. Objective: evaluate the possible benefits of C-section scar massage in the reduction of low back pain, function and quality of life. Method: The sample was composed of 3 volunteers. 8 scar massage sections were performed, twice a week, during 30 minutes for 4 weeks. A personal data questionnaire, the Roland-Morris disability questionnaire, and the Visual Analog Scale (VAS) was previously filled in. The measurement of pain through VAS was also performed through manual inhibition of the scar (lift), aiming at assessing the scar ability to generate pain before the treatment. At the end of the treatment, all evaluations were repeated. Results: After 8 sections, there was an improvement in the static pain in the patients, observed through static VAS (8,33 pre to 2,33 after and 72% of improvement). Dynamic pain measured by VAS presented reduction of 80% after treatment, while disability measured by Roland Morris questionnaire reduced 22%.
