The role of physics in the control of noise in architectural projects
Keywords:
architectural acoustics, wave phenomena, acoustic comfortAbstract
This article emphasizes the importance of Physics concepts in acoustics in architectural projects, showing that the acoustic aspect of a building is as relevant as the structural, hydraulic, electrical, thermal and luminous, among others. Firstly, the work explores the fundamental concepts of Physical Acoustics, relating it to Architectural Acoustics: sound frequency, sound speed, wavelength, sound source, sound power and sound propagation with the corresponding wave phenomena, reflection, diffraction, absorption and transmission. Subsequently, the work addresses acoustic sensations in relation to sound pressure and frequency. With this theoretical apparatus, the concepts of comfort and acoustic discomfort are addressed. In this way, designers will be able to understand the fundamentals of Architectural Acoustics, facilitating the fulfillment of their customers' desires for a residential environment ready to provide the acoustic comfort, so desired.
