Abstract

The purpose of this article is to study the Hospital Santa Casa “Anna Cintra”, founded in 1890, in the city of Amparo / SP, seeking to understand the institution's history, the building's characteristics and the city's development in the nineteenth and twentieth century. It also reflects on the specifics of hospital architecture and its changes throughout history. Throughout the research, the survey and analysis of historical documentation about the building and Amparo was undertaken and, in parallel, the study of the historiography of Brazilian architecture in the First Republic.
