Abstract

Practiced since the old civilization, physical exercises are still an important research object, especially considering that nowadays it is widespread in society. However, when performed incorrectly, physical exercises may cause injuries. This study aimed to understand the sports injuries in adult bodybuilders. The sample consisted of 50 individuals of both genders from the city of Itapira- SP. For data collection, a questionnaire was used containing sociodemographic information and data to verify the possibilities of injuries in bodybuilders in a gym environment. Descriptive statistics was applied using mean, standard deviation and percentages. The results indicate that the occurrence of injuries resulting from bodybuilding is high (70%). Among the mechanisms of injury, muscle injury was the most cited (40%), followed by tendonitis (28.6%) and sprain (20%). Shoulder and knee were the anatomical sites with the highest occurrence of injury (60%). The injuries reported were caused by overweight (48.6%), lack of guidance (28.6%) and poor execution (22.9%). Based on these data, this paper intends to contribute to a better understanding of injuries in bodybuilding practitioners in order to provide relevant information in the development of prevention strategies, either through the monitoring of a qualified professional or the correct instruction during the practice of exercise.
