Cardiovascular diseases diagnosed in patients hospitalized in a hospital in the Vale do Jequitinhonha-MG

Cardiovascular diseases are the most common causes of morbidity and are the main cause of mortality worldwide and are projected to grow in the coming decades. The objective of the study was to characterize the profile of hospitalizations for cardiovascular diseases in an institution in Vale do Jequitinhonha-MG. This is a quantitative, descriptive, exploratory, cross-sectional study, based on the analysis of medical records of hospitalized patients with cardiovascular diseases for 2016. Among the 1,252 medical records analyzed, stroke was identified as the most common cardiovascular disease (30,8%) followed by congestive heart failure (13.8%), acute myocardial infarction (6.0%), venous thrombosis (6.0%) and atrial fibrillation (3.4%). Of the total medical records analyzed, 86.8% were patients treated by the Unified Health System, 69.8% aged 60 or over, 51.7% female, 81.6% of mixed race and black, 40.9 % with married marital status, 75.2% with four or more days of hospitalization and 12.2% of patients died. Studies related to the prevalence of CVD in Vale do Jequitinhonha are important for directing public health actions
