Abstract

The purpose of this article was to study the lack of professional orientation about breastfeeding and the difficulties mothers can face during this moment for lack of knowledge. It was an exploratory integrative review, based on a guiding question, searched by health keywords at Descritores em Ciência da Saúde (DeCS), and the creation of steps and criteria for searching and analyzing the articles. In total, 1921 articles were found of which six were analyzed for meeting the inclusion criteria previously established. The results showed that there is a need for the health team to make training sessions about breastfeeding, even though they already have the necessary knowledge, since these professionals will teach about their benefits to breastfeeding women and therefore should always be updated. Thus, it was concluded that professionals should teach their knowledge in an appropriate way to breastfeeding mothers and the entire community in which they are inserted, creating a important bond between the mother and the professionals.
