THE RELATIONSHIP BETWEEN PARENTAL STYLES AND SUICIDE IDEA IN PREVESTRIBULANS

Abstract

The aim of this study was to understand the different influences that parenting styles have on the life of pre-university students and how and how they end up related to the potentiation of suicidal ideas in this group, in order to expose how parenting styles act in life. of people and which style is capable of interfering in the health of the individual, from its relationship with the arrival and maintenance of suicidal ideations. Thirty students participated in the research, 7 of them at night and 23 in the morning, of which approximately 56.66% belong to females and 43.44% to males, with a minimum age of 18 years and a maximum of 28 years (M = 19.30, DP = 1.96). All from the same educational institution. The instruments used were: an adaptation of the Impulse Questionnaire, Self - Damage and Suicidal Ideation in Adolescence - QIAIS-A and Parental Styles Scale. From the results obtained, it was identified that the female group was more prone to self-harm behaviors and suicidal ideation. It was also found that fathers and mothers represented the authoritative style in the male group, however, in the female group is more demanding and demanding, since in this group, the father represented the authoritarian style. The authors concluded that there is a relationship between parenting style and suicidal ideation, since it was possible to verify that the authoritarian parenting style was shown only in the female group, ie, the one that was more prone to self-harm and suicidal ideation behaviors.
