Abstract

This study's main objective is to present some views on the role of tutor in Distance Education. At first we will present a discussion on mediation in distance education. The importance of the mentor`s work as a coach and mediator, using the experiences of classroom education. We Will address key aspects of the tutor, as their expertise, knowledge of content and its role as educational leader, and the characteristic of constructing knowledge with students. Finally the teacher-tutor emerging as an organizer, facilitator and supervisor of mediations, helping to pave the way for students to develop their skills and interactively seek new knowledge and learning independently.
