Abstract

One characteristic that marks the Brazilian reality care about the gifted and talented students (D & T), whether for identification or even for development is at least negligence. The sloppiness is such that the School Census indicates that only 2,006 students were identified as gifted in 2004, and 2769 students in 2005. This number does not correspond either to 0.005% of the forty-three million students enrolled in elementary and secondary education in the country. Otherwise, we know we have not yet a standardized and validated psychological instrument, the provision of school psychologists and specifically directed to the identification of this population in Brazil. Still, it is known that this process of identifying the teacher's role in the appointment and the use of other strategies is essential. Anchored in a perspective of work that look back to the training of teachers, this study aims at a priori identify the perception of its teachers and students, potential students gifted and talented. Thus, supported the use of an instrument (list type) of own, which proposed to assess three aspects related to D & T (creativity, intelligence and psychomotor), it was noted that teachers identified as students D & T primarily in the area of intelligence (74%), so that the male students (74%), while the students attribute the psychomotor (80%). These data reveal how much is still needed to reveal the myth that D & T is only possible on a high cognitive performance, neglecting those with features in other areas of knowledge.
