Social skills have been considered as a protective factor, contributing to the healthy development of the individual. The objective was to evaluate lifestyle and psychosocial aspects of elementary school students and middle school of the city of São José do Rio Preto / SP. Patients: 384 children and adolescents participated, aged between 9 and 17 years of both sexes. Materials and methods: padronized questionnaires were applied to identify social skill and scale. The results were that children and adolescents in São José do Rio Preto have a poor development of social skills. The prevalence of obese children and adolescents is higher in lower socioeconomic levels. It was concluded that children and adolescents examined in the study, regardless the socioeconomic level, have a malfunction and bad social skills development. The prevalence of obesity and malnutrition in children and adolescents is higher in lower socioeconomic levels.
