This paper presents a brief historical background about the different methodological conceptions that guided the teaching of reading and the written Portuguese language, bringing to the scene the complexity of this process for these children and evidencing the difficulty of systematic teaching of the Portuguese language written also for deaf children. Then, it shows how digital resources and technologies are fundamental elements in the present time when we consider reading and writing and their respective teaching processes (whether for deaf or hearing children), starting from the presentation of the trajectory adopted for the teaching of the language written in Brazil. Finally, it presents what would be the implications for the studies dedicated to reflecting, based on Soares's studies, on the “reinvention of literacy”, which is urgent today from the appropriation of digital resources - as well as the implications for research focused on the literacy of deaf children, more specifically.
